A lot of people these days wonder what Ramadan is. Well, stop wondering. It’s pretty simple… Ramadan is something that occurs once a year. It’s an Islamic holiday and it’s celebrated all over the world by all Muslims. No matter if they’re black, white or yellow, they celebrate it. Ramadan is also a month to get a blessing from Allah and to stop doing anything evil you’re up to.
Every single day of Ramadan, Muslims spend the daylight hours in a complete fast. Muslims do not eat or drink in any form under the daylight hours during Ramadan. They also have to keep away from some physical needs. To some people, Ramadan is the month of staying away from eating and drinking, but for some others, just like me, it’s a lot more. Ramadan is all about purifying your soul, refocusing your attention to Allah and practicing self-sacrifice. It sounds pretty hard, but it’s really not.
During the blessed month Ramadan, every part of the body must be restrained. The tongue must be restrained from backbiting and gossip. The eyes must restrain themselves from looking at unlawful things. The hand must not touch or take anything that does not belong to it. The ears must refrain from listening to idle talk or obscene words. The feet must refrain from going to sinful places. In such a way, every part of the body observes the fast. Ramadan is a time to practice self-restraint; a time to cleanse the body and soul from impurities and re-focus one’s self on the worship of God.
